FAQ's?

UPDATED FEB 1, 2024

Is Elvis living a secret life in the remote outback of Australia?

How the hell is Keith Richards still alive?

Does Madonna really have cone-shaped boobs the size of witches hats?

Okay, so we don't know the answers to any of those, but can help you with few other FAQ's you might have...

1. Who are we?

We are a small, independent record dealer based on the Cape Peninsula, just 40 minutes south of Cape Town CBD.

2. Where & when do we trade?

You can shop online 24/7.

In March 2022 we opened a new indie Record Shop under flexible hours.

This is not a traditional bricks and mortar store and not a full-time venture, but rather a part-time home-based set-up in the Sunnydale, Noordhoek area.

3. Where can I find information about the new Record Shop?

Visit Record Shop menu on the Home Page

4. Where do we source our new vinyl?

We import the vast majority of our mint & sealed vinyl from a highly regarded and very reliable suppliers in Holland and the United States.

5. What does Yesteryear specialise in?

We focus on new releases and classic re-issues from quality record labels that we know and trust.

Whilst we can order anything you want, we tend to gravitate towards classic rock and pop, blues, jazz, soul and funk (and most of their sub-genres).

But the choice these days is almost endless, with new vinyl coming out every day ... so please feel free to ask, we will do our best to help :-)

6. Do we sell second hand records?

No, not at the moment. Our focus is on new, factory sealed records.

7. Can I order anything at all?

Within reason, yes. Please email us with your request.

We will respond with an Order confirming availability/price and a request to complete payment.

Please note that your order is only finalised with our suppliers when payment is made.

8. What is the quality of new vinyl like?

Whilst we can order anything that is listed on databases we use, we recommend sticking to record labels that we know and trust for their higher quality recordings.

Sadly, there are some suspect labels out there recording direct from CD, cutting corners and selling cheaply into the market. We avoid these labels as much as possible - as you might as well buy the CD! And after all, we sell vinyl :-)

Fortunately there are also a stack of great quality, indie record labels and of course, the major players that we all know and trust, who are all doing the right thing. So you can confidently buy from Yesteryear knowing that your record will deliver the sound you expect.

9. How do we pack our vinyl?

We use bubble wrap inside and outside a dedicated vinyl record mailer that can accommodate up to 6 LP's comfortably. Your vinyl is safe and secure with Yesteryear :-)

10. How long will delivery take if my order is physically in-stock at Yesteryear?

For courier of in-stock vinyl to major centres in South Africa from Cape Town, please allow ±3 days although this can be quicker depending on your location.

Capetonians can expect delivery of 'in stock' titles on the next working day.

11. How often does Yesteryear import records?

Import schedules are subject to customer demand. We generally order from Europe every 2 months. Imports from the USA are less frequent with shipments arriving every 3-4 months.

12. How long will my order take to arrive?

Delivery time-frames for individual orders vary depending on timing of your order in relation to our import schedule, and of course the availability of stock at the supplier at any given time.

Please keep in mind that no supplier in the world carries all of the stock listed on their databases at any given time.

As a result, back-orders and subsequent waiting periods are a fact of life. We thank you in advance for your patience :-)

13. What happens if my order is not in stock at the supplier?

If your order is not in stock at the supplier it automatically goes to back-order.

Our standard policy is to allow 3 months for any back-order to fill before resorting to alternative options which may include an exchange for another In Stock title.

Most items ship within that time-frame but unfortunately some don’t, a reality of the record industry that we have no control over.

14. What happens after 3 months?

If your order has not arrived within 3 months, please get in touch so we can make a plan with one of the following options:

1) you can choose to continue waiting
2) exchange for something else from our In Stock range
3) Gift Voucher credit you can redeem later

If you choose to continue waiting but your order has not arrived within 6 months, we can then offer a refund. Sorry, but no cash refunds before 6 month period has expired.

Please note that we can't cancel orders placed with our suppliers, so when items do eventually ship you would still have 1st option on your chosen title(s), without any obligation

15. Who do we use for shipping?

Our international suppliers use Fedex to ship internationally to Cape Town.

We then use Courier Guy to ship from Cape Town to major centres in South Africa.

Sorry - we do not ship internationally at this point in time.

Shipping charge will reflect at final check-out.

17. If some, but not all of my order is here now, can I get the 'in stock' items shipped early?
