We used to be 'dog people' at Yesteryear but that's all changed in recent times with the arrival of Luna, our back CATalogue Queen.
Sadly, our two hounds passed away over the last couple of years.
One was a lively rescue dog of questionable pedigree called Ned, who left us far too young through sudden illness.
The other was Nala, a lovely Aussie Shepherd who had a really good innings of 14 years, before shuffling off this mortal coil.
Luna has filled the gap in our little home more than we ever imagined a cat would.
To be honest, our perception has always been that cats will only give you the time of day if there was something in it for them.
And whilst that may be true to a degree, Luna has continued to surprise us.
So what can we learn from cats (and music) to make our jumbled lives a tad better?
Luna had a quiet word with Yesteryear and would like to leave us mere humans with 3 basic tips :-)
Luna Tip #1 - Slow down. Enjoy idle moments
In this sped-up world of constant busyness (or the deceptive act of appearing busy that we cats, observe you silly people try on all the time), the simplest pleasure of all is to find a comfy spot and stare into the nothing.
It’s dead easy. It's free. And it clears the mind of clutter like you wouldn’t believe. Give it a whirl.
Luna Tip #2 - Take a nap
If you’re feeling tired, curl up and get a bit of shut-eye. It’s not rocket science folks. Us cats do it all the time and it seems to work out pretty well : )
Luna Tip #3 - Find time to play
If I crouch in the shrubs leopard-style and wait patiently for the humans that feed me to walk down the garden path, I can spring out and grab them by the ankles. It gives them one helluva’ fright and makes my whiskers curl.
Luna's quite sure these simple ploys will work for common folk anywhere, anytime, just as they do for cats. And this, she believes, is especially true for record collectors just like us.
“Do absolutely nothing every now and then, but just to make sure that pesky human guilt doesn’t get in the way, drop the needle on a favourite record while you're at it. Some Blue Note jazz should work rather nicely. Try Grant Green's Idle Moments (1965) for starters” :-)
For anyone that knows Yesteryear well, this may all seem a bit rich (as we're not great at any of these things just yet) but we are learning, which just goes to show that even a cat can teach old dogs like us, new tricks :-)
